Relationships

Father: Henry Salusbury.

This relationship is shown by Bartrum (Salesbury 1). It is given by Dwnn (2:331), and by Owen (p. 155). Lewys Dwnn (2:331) gives Henry’s parents as John Salsberi and Catherin, daughter to Lord Semer (presumably Seymour). I am not sure about the reliability of this, but it is probably questionable.

Mother: Nest ferch Cynwrig Fychan ap Cynwrig Sais.

This relationship is shown by Bartrum (Salesbury 1). It is given by Dwnn (2:331). Owen (p. 155) states that “One genealogical source refers to the marriage of Sir Henry Salusbury and Nest, daughter and heiress of Cynwrig Fychan ap Cynwrig Sais, and Edward I’s grant to him of Lleweni, described as ‘a hunting seat of the princes of Wales.’ Cynwrig was probably the representative of the Marchweithian clan whose sons were prominent landholders in the post-conquest period…” Smith (p. 4) states that the grant from Edward I “is so entirely inconsistent with the evidence of the 1334 survey, where the Salusburys are only three among scores of tenants, that we are obliged to dismiss it at once.”

Spouse: Margred ferch Dafydd ap Cynwrig.

This relationship is shown by Bartrum (Salesbury 1 ; Yswatan Wyddel). It is given by Dwnn (2:331) and by Owen (p. 155). Bartrum shows Dafydd as the son of Cynwrig, the son of Philip Ffychdan of Bychton, the son of Philip, the son of Yswatan Wyddel.

Children:

Ralph (Rawling) Salusbury married Margred ferch Ieuan.
