Relationships

Father: Maredudd.

This relationship is implied by the patronymic given by Barrell and Davies (Table A). Lloyd (iii p. 63) continues the line: Maredydd ab Uchdryd ab Edwyn ab Goronwy, Prince of Tegeingl. In other words, this Maredudd. Barrell and Davies (p. 34) call this descent “suggestive” and point out that such a descent might explain aspects of the deed cited below. (In it, Einion is exempted from all secular dues other than military service. Such exemptions were rarely granted.) Bartrum (Edwin 10) doesn’t show Madog as a son of that Maredudd, but he seems to have been in the process of revising the charts concerning this family. (Pencilled references to Ednywain Bendew 5a seem to lead nowhere.)

Mother: unknown.

Spouse: unknown.

Evidence

Davies (1944) discusses a 1243 grant by Llewlyn ap Gruffudd to Einion ap Maredudd of Dyffryn Clwyd. (The reproduction of the grant is not available in the digital version.)
