Commentary
Martha’s parentage
Martha married in 1731, and had several baptized between 1731 and 1751 in Ashton in Makerfield. This suggests that she was born between 1700 and 1720. The only baptism which close to Ashton in the period is that of a Martha Aspinall in 1708 in Ashton (abode Golborn). Her father is recorded as Miles Aspinall. The Winwick parish register records the burial in 1722 of “Alice Wife of Miles Aspinall of Golborn”.
In addition to Martha, Miles Aspinall had a daughter Anna baptized in Ashton in 1705.
The Winwick parish register records the marriage of Miles Aspinall and Alice Fishwick in 1689, and the baptism of their children Joseph and Alice in 1689 and 1691.
In spite of the gap between the baptism of Alice Aspinall in 1691 in Winwick and Anna Aspinall in Ashton in 1705, I think it is likely that this was the same family. Probably there were other children whose baptisms have not turned up. Miles Aspinall is mentioned in the 1729 will of his mother in law, Alice Fishwick of Upholland.
