The date is given by White. According to Orderic, Warin had cut off the head of a knight named Gouhier de Bellême, who had approached him smiling, and was soon afterwards seized by a demon and strangled before the eyes of his companions. White suggests that the strangulation is probably a description of a death by poison or by stroke.
