Llywelyn ap Gruffudd ap Gwenwynwyn

Custodian of Dolforwyn castle and Cydewain, 1279


Llywelyn held Mochnant-uwch-Rhaedr, Mechain-uwchcoed (with Greenhall) and four vills, from 1291. He served with his uncle Roger l'Estrange as a messenger to the papal court. (Morgan, p. 6)

Place of Birth: unknown.

The date is suggested by Morgan (p. 6). Bartrum (Bleddyn ap Cynfyn 30) gives Llywelyn a number of 7 in his generational dating system, implying a birth date of, very roughly, about 1230.


Date of Death: 1294.

Place of Death: unknown.

The date is given by Bartrum (Bleddyn ap Cynfyn 30) and by Morgan (p. 8).

A document of 1 March 1270/1 records a grant by Gruffudd ap Gwenwynwyn of lands to his son Llywelyn in Buttington, Hope, Orleton (Trewern), Deuddwr, and vills in Caereinion, if he should survive him and Hawise (Stephenson, p. 169).
