This estimated date is given by Maddicott (ODNB).


Date of Death: 14 April 1322.

Place of Death: Canterbury.

Bartholomew was hanged and decapitated for having fought with the rebels at Boroughbridge The date and place are given by Maddicott (ODNB).


Relationships


Father: Guncelin of Badlesmere (died 1301).

This relationship is given by Maddicott (ODNB) and by the Complete Peerage (1:371-372). Guncelin was Justice of Chester. He was of Badlesmere, Kent. The relationship is recorded in Guncelin’s inquisition post mortem (CIPM Volume 4: Edward I, no. 38). Hasted (Volume 6, sub Badlesmere) states that Guncelin’s father was named Bartholomew.

Mother: unknown.

The Complete Peerage (1:372) states that she was Joan, daughter of Ralph fitz Bernard of Kingsdown, Kent (aunt and, in her issue, heir to Thomas [Lord] Fitz Bernard), but in 5:403,it is stated that Guncelin’s wife is unknown. Maddicott (ODNB) states that Bartholomew’s mother is unknown.


Spouse: Margaret de Clare (about 1286 - 1333).
