From the 1642 Protestation Returns:

Robert Crompton, Darcy Lever
Thomas Crompton, Darcy Lever
Adam Crompton, Darcy Lever
from the Recognizance Roll (Manchester, Midsummer, 1646):
Little Lever: Richard Scowercroft and Lydia his wife, to keep the peace to Thomas Crompton and Elizabeth his wife.
In a 1650 church survey of the parish of Middleton, it was noted that messuages in Darcy Lever and Little Lever in the tenure of Adam Crompton and Thomas Crompton (among others) were “fit to be appropriated to the new parish of Cockey.”
In the Lancashire Quarter Sessions of 1689/90, there was a relief for Thomas Crompton of Little Lever, aged 70. (This is probably another Thomas, the one in Little Lever in 1642.)
Commentary
Thomas’s parentage
Thomas lived at Little Leaver and his eldest child was baptized in 1646. The date and place fit with the 1625 baptism of Thomas Crompton at Bolton (father Robert Crompton, abode Little Leaver, according to the transcription at OnlineParishClerks). More evidence would be needed to be certain of this relationship, however.
It seems that Robert Crompton married Ellen Cleaton in Bolton in 1612, then they had a child buried in 1614 and four children baptized between 1615 and 1625. The abode is recorded as Darcy Leaver for the burial and first two baptisms, and Little Leaver for the last two baptisms.
It is possible that some records of baptisms, marriages, and burials of this family may have been recorded in early registers of Cockey Chapel, which are now thought to be lost. Thomas’s uncle Thomas Crompton left a bequest in his 1627 will towards the maintenance of a minister at Cockey Chapel, and a 1650 church survey recommended that the residences of Thomas and Adam Crompton be appropriated to Cockey Chapel.
