(supposed) Mother: Elizabeth Pryce of Llandinam.
These parents are given in Montgomeryshire Collections XIX page 195 (calling the mother “Miss Pryce of Llandinam”) and XXXVII page 219 (calling the mother “Elizabeth Pryce of Llandinam”). E. R. Morris (MC LVIII pp.36-7) casts doubt on the connection with Cilgwrgan, and probably the general reliability of the information concerning the names. In “Thomas Powell–Chartist” (MC LXXX pp. 95-6) he states that the strong family tradition among the Powells discussed in earlier volumes of Montgomeryshire makes it probable that they descended, as a junior branch, from a small landed family.

A note in Jones states that, according to Samuel Jones of Ivy House, Welshpool, she was a Shropshire lady of good family, but Samuel had forgotten her name.

John Powell (died 1788) married (1) Jane Humphreys 9 March 1747 in Newtown; married (2) Anne Owen 4 February 1767 in Llandinam.
