(possible) Father: William Powell (supposedly of Cilgwrgan in the parish of Llanmerewig).

This father is given in Montgomeryshire Collections (XIX, p. 195 and XXXVII, p. 220). E.R. Morris (MC LVIII pp. 36-37) casts some doubt on this, particularly on the connection with Cilgwrgan.

Mother: unknown.


Spouse: Mary Thomas (1726 - 1792). Married 11 November 1750 in Newtown, Montgomeryshire.

The marriage is given in the bishop’s transcripts of the parish registers.


Brother: William Powell (buried 3 May 1777 in Newtown) married Bridget Peter 6 February 1741 in Newtown. William's son Thomas mentions in his will his uncle James Powell, maltster of Newtown, and several of James's children.


Brother: John Powell (buried 1 October 1788 in Newtown) married (1) Jane Humphreys 9 March 1747 in Newtown; married (2) Anne Owen 4 February 1767 in Llandinam, Montgomeryshire. William's son Thomas mentions in his will his uncle John Powell.
