Information from William’s will (abstracted by Cliff Webb):


William Stere senior of Ockley. Will made 28 February 1532/32.

William asked to be buried in the churchyard.

William left his daughter Isabel two kine and a bullock.

William left the residue to his wife Alice, then to his son Edmund Stere.

William left his son John Stere 20 nobles.

William made his wife Alice his executrix.

The will was proved 8 February 1532/33 by his son William Stere for Alice.


In the 1492 will of William Tepam of Capel, William names his friend Thomas Ster.

In the 1532 will of John Palmer of Dorking, senior, John mentions his daughter Alice Stere. (One of the witnesses was Richard Palmer of Capel, which is near Ockley.)

In the 1535 will of John Steare of Ockley, John names his wife Alice and William Stere is a witness.
