Phokas

According to the PmbZO, “Phokas” was probably a personal name which became a surname for Phokas’s descendants. Kazhdan notes that the assertions that the Phokas family descended from the Roman Fabii or from Arabs are legendary rather than historical and that the hypothesis of their Armenian descent is unproveable.
