Relationships

Father: Hugh Eland.

Mother: unknown.

This relationship is given by the Yorkshire Archaeological Journal’s notes to Dodsworth’s notes (Vol. 7, p. 132). The Coucher Book of Whalley Abbey (Vol. III, notes on page 641) give Hugh’s father as another Hugh, and that Hugh’s father was Henry de Eland and his mother the daughter and heir of _____ de Whiteword. (Margery’s brother John mentions her in a charter (p. 640).) Clay calls this "curiously incorrect" and argues that Hugh's father was Sir Richard de Eland, who was the son of an earlier Hugh.

Spouse: Gilbert de Notton.

This relationship is given by the Yorkshire Archaeological Journal’s notes to Dodsworth’s notes (Vol. 7, p. 132).
