Richard’s will


In the name of God Amen I Richard Johnson of Sorock in the parish of Welbury and County of York being rather out of health but of Sound Mind and memory praised be God for the same Do make this my last Will and Testament as follows First I Give and bequeath unto my Loving Wife Alice Johnson all my Household Goods except three Feather Beds and the Bedding belonging to them to dispose of as she pleases Item I do direct that my Executors herinafter named do pay unto my said Wife Seven Pounds a Year at two equal payments out of my whole Effects during her Natural life Item I Give to my Daughter Susanna Sadler one Guinea for her own use without the Controul of her husband To my Son in Law John Sadler two Shillings and six pence and to each of his children one shilling a piece Item I Give to my Daughter Hannah Martin twenty five pounds to be paid immediately after my Wife’s death, and to be intirely for her own use with power to dispose of the same by Will, if She should die before her Mother without the Controul of her Husband To my Son in Law Thomas Martin and to every one of his children by my Daughter one Shilling apiece To my Daughters Rebecca Alice and Ann each one Feather Bed and the Bedding belonging to them Item it is my Will and I do direct that all my Money and Debts be collected or Valued and all my Goods and Chattels of all kinds be Sold and the Money arising from such sale be set out on Interest by my Executors hereinafter named with the approbation of Thomas Smith the elder of Deighton, whom I do hereby Impower to assist and advise my said Executors both in choosing sage and proper persons into whose hands the Money may be Lett out to Interest and in aiding them to Call in my Debts and I do direct my Executors to Give the said Thomas Smith half a Guinea for his trouble Item it is my Will that after the death of my Wife all my Moneys before directed to be Lent on Interest shall be equally divided, the Legacies before bequeathed being first paid amongst my three Daughters Rebecca Alice and Ann, and in Case any one of them shall dye before me such Share of her so dying shall be equally divided amongst her children, if She shall have any if not as She shall dispose of by Will Item I do hereby direct my Executors to assist my Wife in Case of Sickness or any other Accident, with proper relief over and besides her Annuity And I do Nominate and Appoint my Sons in Law Hugh Prest of Knayton and Thomas Martin of Brompton Joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament, revoking all former Wills and confirming this to be my last Will and Testament In Witness hereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this fourth day of October one thousand seven hundred and seventy four - Richard Johnson Signed Sealed published and declared by the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us, who at his request, have set our Names as Witnesses hereof George Thompson Ann Watson her Mark Wm Robinson. past Ex.d Seal July 1775.
