A marriage bond:

A Joseph Valiant was a guardian of Nicholas Slanning, infant son of the Royalist M.P. Sir Nicholas Slanning, who was killed in 1643. The younger Nicholas became 1st Baronet of Maristow. His mother, Gertrude, remarried Richard Arundel, 1st Baron Arundel of Trerice. (Calendar of the Proceedings of the Committee for Compounding,&c., 1643-1660, v. 3, p. 2210).
