Commentary
Margaret’s parentage
The Disley register records the marriage 26 May 1669 of “Margaret Bowdon of Disley”. The only baptism of a Margaret Bowdon in Disley in the time period is 7 September 1645: “Margarett daughter of George Bowdon & Marie his wife of Disley”.
A 1697 document related to the estate of George Bowdon’s son Thomas names Thomas’s sister “Margarett Richardson”.
In her 1674 will, “Mary Bowdon of Disley in the County of Chester widow Relict of George Bowdon late of Disley aforesaid yeoman” named her daughter Margaret Richardson. She also named her sister Ellen Hyde and her “brothers sonn” Anthony Hyde, implying that her maiden name was Hyde.
