William’s will:
In the name of God amen I William Berrow of the Parish of Ombersley in the County of Worcester Yeoman being of sound and perfect memory and understanding praised be God for the same and calling to mind the uncertainty of this Life do make and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say First and principally I commend my Soul to God who gave it me and my Body to the Earth from whence it was taken to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named and as for such worldly Estate as God has been pleased to bless me with I dispose thereof as followeth. I Give and bequeath unto my Son John Berrow one Shilling I Give and bequeath unto my loving wife Mary The Bed Bedsteads and all appertenances whereon I usually lye, Three pair of Sheets, one brass Pott, one Brass Kettle Two Pewter Dishes and two Plates And Whereas my Son John Berrow hath given me his Bond to pay the Sum of Thirty Pounds within three Years after my decease and the decease of my s.d Wife Mary and the survivor of us as I by my last Will should direct and appoint Now I do hereby order will and desire that the said Thirty Pounds shall be paid to such person or persons as my said Wife Mary shall by her last Will and Testament in Writing or Will Nuncupative direct and appoint hereby giving her full power and authority to dispose of the same I Give devise and bequeath unto my Son William Berrow All that my Messuage and Lands with the appertanances in Grimley which I hold for Lives under the Right Reverend the Lord Bishop of Worcester To hold him and his heires and assignes according to the Custom of the Manour of Grimley afores.d Upon Trust that he my said Son William do and shall within three Months next after my decease pay or otherwise secure the payment of Three score Pounds which I owe to my Brother John Berrow by Bond in such sort and manner as my s.d Brother shall think fit, and so that my Executor may be effectually discharged from the payment thereof But in case my s.d Son William shall neglect or refuse to pay the s.d Threescore Pounds or to give such security for the payment thereof as my s.d Brother shall approve of within the time herein before Limitted Then I do hereby revoke the devise herein before to my s.d Son William and do Give devise and bequeath the s.d messuage Lands and premisses in Grimley to my said Brother John Berrow and to his heires and assignes hereby desiring him to make Sale of the same, and after he has fully paid and satisfied himself the said therescore Pounds and Interest, Then I Give the overplus arising by the s.d Sale to my said Son William, All the rest and residue and remainder of my Goods Chattells and personal Estate whatsoever or wheresoever or of what nature or kind soever I Give and bequeath the same unto my Son, Thomas Berrow whom I make sole Executor of this my Will declaring it to be my last, In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this 24.th day of March, 1752 (N:S:)

Commentary
William’s age was given as 26 on his 1718 marriage bond, implying a birth date of around 1692, but there are good reasons to suppose that he was the William Berrow baptized in Grimley in 1685. William was described on the marriage bond as residing in Hallow. His bondsman was John Berrow of Grimley. In his 1719 will, William Berrow senior of Hallow named his sons William and John (among other children) and asked to be buried in Grimley. From names of the children in the will and the records of baptisms in Grimley, it is obvious that the son William named in the will was the William baptized in Grimley in 1685, parents William and Anne. Another son John was baptized in Grimley in 1689. No other William Burrow appears in the records associated with Hallow or Grimley in the appropriate time period.
