Commentary
John’s date and place of birth and parentage:
The censuses give this information:
1841 (taken 6 June): age 40, born in Worcestershire. [Ages in this census were rounded down to the nearest multiple of 5.]
1851 (taken 30 March): age 51, born in Kidderminster, Worcestershire.
1861 (taken 7 April): age 63, born “Worcestr Kidderstr”
John was probably the informant for all three censuses.
John’s burial record of 22 March 1871 states that he was aged 74.
Taken together, there is consistent evidence that John was born slightly before 1800 in Kidderminster. This enables us to identify his baptism as being that of John Guest, 1 July 1797, Kidderminster. The baptism entry records that John’s parents were William and Mary Guest. There is supporting evidence that William and Mary were John’s parents:
John named his eldest son William.
A witness to John’s marriage, Frederick Guest, was a brother of the John baptized in 1797.
Taken together, the evidence is sufficient.
