Igor

Also known as И́горь and by his Nordic name of Inger.

Events

Date of Birth: unknown.

Igor was said to be very young at his father Igor’s death, which would put his birth close to 878. On the other hand, other data, such as the likely birth date of his son in the late 930’s, suggest a later birth date for Igor. Raffensperger gives about 879.

Place of Birth: unknown.

Date of Death: about 945.

Place of Death: Korosten.

The date and place are given by Franklin and by Raffensperger.

Relationships

(supposed) Father: Riurik (died 879). Prince of Novgorod.

Also known as Rurik, Рюри, Rørik, -- all forms of the name Roderick. This is the father given in the Primary Chronicle. The acts ascribed to Riurik, and the date of his death, make the chronology long for this relationship. It is unclear whether Riurik is a figure more of history or of legend.

Mother: unknown.

Spouse: Olga (died about 969).

This relationship is given by Franklin (pp. 417-418), by Nazarenko, and by Raffensperger. Her Nordic name was Helga. She was baptized in about 957 in Constantinople as Helena.

Children:

Sviatoslav (late 930s - 972), later Sviatoslav I, king of Kiev, married Predslava.
