A bequest was left to Jane in the will of her son John Onley, dated 11 November 1537. The burial place of his “mother in law Jane Pygot” is mentioned in the will of Jane’s step-son and son in law Thomas Piggot, dated 15 September 1546.
Relationships
Father: Thomas Pontesbury.
Mother: Elizabeth Grafton.
These relationships are given in the 1623 Visitation of Shropshire (pp. 403-404) and by Owen/Blakeway (2:290). Hawkyard gives Thomas Pontesbury as Jane’s father.
Spouse: John Onley.
This relationship is given by Hawkyard. The 1564 Visitation of Northamptonshire (p. 38) gives “...Only of co. Salop, Esq., mar. Jane, da. to ...Ponsperye.”
Spouse: Robert Pigott. Married before 11 November 1537.
The relationship is made clear by the 1538 will of Jane’s son John Onley (“I bequeth to my mother Jane Pygott iij li vj s viij d”.) and the 1623 Visitation of Shropshire (p. 404). The same Visitation (p. 401) erroneously has her as the wife of Robert Pygott’s grandson Robert. The 1546 will of Robert’s son Thomas refers to the burial place of his “mother in law” Jane Pygot in the chancel of the parish church of Chetwynd.
