Evidence


Hywel is mentioned in a petition to Edward I dated about 1277 or 1278 (Pryce no. 94). Hywel had refused suit at Rhys ap Maredudd's court after having been made a knight:

...Derechef com Howel ab Griffyn doyt une seute a la curt le avaundyt Res de Lensadorn’, e memes celuy Howel pus k’il fu fet chevalere de cele seute fere sei ad il sustret, le avaundyt Res prie ke il eyt un bref a les bailiffs nostre seignour le rey de Dyneuor’ a destreindre le avaundyt Howel a fere cele seute a l’avaundyte curt com il soleit fere al tens le pere memes celuy Res….
