Relationships

Father: unknown.

In the 1583 will of Richard Cocke of Stotesdon, these people are mentioned as owing him money: Richard Hammond of Stottesdon; Margery the wife of Richard; John the son of Richard; and Joan the daughter Richard.

Mother: unknown.

Spouse: Frances Hinton. Married 17 May 1568 in Stottesdon.

The marriage and burial are recorded in the parish register.

Children:

(John’s children are named in his will. The baptisms below are given tentatively. They are recorded in the Stottesdon parish register. There are many Hammond baptisms there. Those given below seem the most likely, given the implied birth order in John Hammond’s will. The dates seem consistent with the fact that John describes himself as “very aged” in his 1621 will, and that his youngest daughter had children at the time of his death. The father of the first four children below, and that of the first baptism for Humfrey, are not recorded in the baptism records. The second baptism for Humfrey and the baptism for Joan have the father recorded as John.)

John Hammond (possibly baptized 18 April 1569; died about 1650) married Margery Bruckhouse in 1611.

Margaret Hammond (possibly baptized 19 November 1570, as “Margerie”).

Robert Hammond (possibly baptized 30 November 1572).

Thomas Hammond (possibly baptized 17 October 1573 or 20 January 1575).

Humfrey Hammond (possibly baptized 12 March 1578 or 13 August 1581).

Joan Hammond (probably baptized 19 September 1585).
