Ann Lilly

Events

Date of Birth: about 1749

Her burial record in the bishop’s transcripts gives her age at death as 55. The parish register gives no age.

Date of Baptism: unknown.

Place of Baptism: unknown.

An Ann Lilly was baptized 17 January 1749/50 at Tealby, but she was not the Ann Lilly of this page (She married in Stickney, Lincolnshire in 1769.)

Date of Burial: 21 February, 1804.

Place of Burial: Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.

The burial is recorded in the parish registers (“Ann Brewster, Wife of Thos Brewster”.)

Relationships

Father: unknown Lilly.

(probable) Mother: Mary Willoughby.

The will of Stephen Willoughby makes his niece, Ann Lilly, his sole executor. The will also mentions his brother Charles, his sisters Ann and Elizabeth Willoughby, and his nephew John Bocock. The will of Stephen’s brother Charles also mentions his sisters Ann and Elizabeth Willoughby, as well as a number of people whose relationships to Charles are not specified, including some Bococks. The 1717 will of Richard Willoughby mentions his sons Charles and Stephen Willoughby, and his daughters Mary, Elizabeth, and Catherine Willoughby. It also mentions the possibility that his wife is pregnant. Charles and Stephen appear by their wills to have left no surviving children. Ann and Elizabeth appear never to have married. A John Bocock was baptized 27 April 1718 in West Rasen, the son of Edward and Catherine Bocock. Presumably Catherine was Richard Willoughby’s daughter. That leaves Richard Willoughby’s daughter Mary as the probable mother of Ann Lilly. (Ann Lilly's apparent birth date makes it a bit of a stretch chronologically that Catherine was her mother by a second husband.) An Ann Lilly was baptized in Tealby in 1749, but other evidence suggests that this was a different family.

Spouse: Thomas Brewster (about 1737 - 1815). Married 23 July 1766 in Market Rasen.

The marriage is recorded in the parish register.
