The will of John Bruckhouse:


In the name of god amen upon the thirteenth day of february in the yeare of our Lord God One Thousand Six hundred and Seaven. I John Bruckhouse th’elder of Northwoode withine the parish of Stotesdon and Dioces of Hereford yeoman: sick in body but of good and perfect remembrance (praysed be god) Doe ordayne and make this my last will and Testament in manner and forme following. First I commend my soule into the mercifull handes of Allmighty God my only maker and Redeemer: And my body to be buried in Christian buriall. Item I give and bequeathe unto Margery Bruckhouse my Daughter the bed that I lye upon with all Clothes and furniture thereunto belonging, with a Truckle-bedd under the same Bedd: One Joyned presse and a round Table standing in my chamber: And also Twentie pounds to be payed unto her in manner and forme as followeth viz: Six poundes thirtene shillings fower pence within one yeare next after my decease: and other Six poundes Thirteene shillinges fower pence within the second yeare next after my deceasse: and the Residue being Six poundes Thirteene shillinges fower pence of the sayd Twentie poundes to be payd within the third yeare next after my decease: of the which somme of Twentie poundes afore bequeathed by me Sixe pounds thirteene shillings fower pence therof was given by the last will and testament of Thomas Cock her grandfather deceased, the which hath rested in my hands for the space of these Tenn yeares last past: and my will it is, that this my bequest shalbe in full discharge of the legacie given her by the sayd Thomas Cocke her grandfather. Item I give and bequeath unto Thomas Bruckhouse my Sonne Twentie shillings. Item I give and bequeath unto my Sonne John Bruckhouse twelve pence in lieu of his portion: The Rest of all my goods and Cattells moveable and unmoveable whatsoever unnamed and unbequeathed with all those goodes that are specified and conteyned in the note of partition hereunder written I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Bruckhouse my wief, whom also I make and appoynte sole Executrix of this my last will and Testament, to see all my debts legacies and funerall expences discharged and payd accordingly: These being witnesses John Barter Clerke William Hooper George Parkes William Knotts(?) and others. Debts owing unto the sayd Testator. Mr Francis Blunt oweth me fowerteene poundes by specialtie: Debts which I doe owe: unto Thomas Hinton my sonne in lawe Twentie eight shillings fower pence. &c. A true noate of the deviding of the houshould stuff betweene John Bruckhouse th’elder and John Bruckhouse the yonger his sonne taken the seaventh day of January a thousand six hundred and three: Goods appoynted by partition for John Bruckhouse the elder. Imprimis the Table boord and frame in the hall with the forme there. Item the presse of Joyners worke in the Chamber where the sayd John Bruckhouse th’elder lyeth. Item the standing bed and the Truckle bed and the two coffers in the same Chamber. Item the litle square table and frame and one ioyned forme in the same chamber together with the shelves in the same Chamber. Item one ould bedsted in the chamber over hall, and one bourd lyeing to the chimney over the entrye. Item the lesser brasse pott, the greatest kettle, the lesser brasse panne, and the greatest of the three litle kettles. Item the lesser broache and a paire of Cobbards and the payre of Andyrons and the frying panne. Item three barrells and two hooped payles. Item three salt sellers, one pewter cup, one litle Mastlen Candlestick and one pewter Candlestick. Item three counterfeit dishes, two platters on the cubbords heade and seaven peeces of pewter more of severall sorts. Provided alway as and it is agreed betweene the parties, that the Ould Iron bound chest shalbe usd by John the elder and his wief during their lives, and afterwardes to remayne to John the sonne: and that the weeting combe, threading Trough, bowling whitch (?) Chease presse, mustard mill and gard, together with the cheyne over the fyre in the hall, the pothangles and the gredyron shalbe used and ymploied in the common betweene them during the lief of John th’elder and his wief, and afterwards to remayne to the sonne. And Likewise it is agreed betweene the parties that the said John Th’elder and his wife shall fynde bedding for the servants of John the sonne and his wief untill such tyme as the sayd John the yonger hath made provision for them of his owne. Indenture and Counterpart, between John Brookehowse of Northwood parish of Stottesdon, yeo., and Judith now his wife on the one part, and John Harrietts of Charley, yeo., andWm. Barnesley of Tresle, Staffs, gent. of the other part. For the consideration of £140 paid by John Harrietts, conveyance by John Brookehowse of the messuage now in the tenure of John Brookehowse in Northwood with all houses, buildings, gardens, orchards etc, belonging or demised to the same messuage and occupied by John Brookehowse, or by John Brookehowse his father dec. or Robert Brookehowse his grandfather dec. Also all the other messuages, barns, stables, houses etc. of John and Judith Brookehowse in Northwood with all appurtenances, and also the reversions and all the estate, right and title with all deeds and writings; to hold by John Harrietts and William Barnesley and their heirs and assigns for ever. John Brookehowse and his heirs has warranted the messuage to John Harrietts and Wm. Barnelsey against himself and his heirs and all persons having claim to premises for ever. Covenant by John Brookehowse that he has not committed any act or thing to prevent his conveying the premises. Further that at time of making of present agreement that he is lawfully seised of the premises, and that he and Judith his wife at the time of the making of the present agreement are lawfully seised until the first execution of the estate of and in the premises to John Harrietts and Wm. Barnesley and will stand seised without any limitation to change the same. That John Brookehowse and Judith until the time of the first execution of the present shall have authority to grant or assure the premises to John Harrietts and Wm. B. Covenant that J.H. and W.B. may peacefully possess the premises without suit or interuption, and that the premises are free from all former gifts, grants, bargains, sales, dowers, jointures, leases etc. and other estates charges etc. Further that J.B. has covenanted that he will within the space of five years from date of making present at the request and costs and charges of J.H. and W.B. devise assurances as they or their council in law shall devise concerning the better conveying the premises. Moreover that all fines assurances etc. within the next 5 yrs. made by J.B. or Judith his wife concerning the premises shall be for the further assurances of the premises to J.H. and W.B.

Mem. That 8th Jan. John Brookehowse and Judith his wife sealed and delivered this indenture to John Harrietts and William Barnesley.


Immediately after John Brookehowse and Judith delivered full and peacefull possession and seisin in the messuage, with lands closes meadows etc. to John Harrietts and William Barnesley to their uses and of their heirs and assigns for ever. In the presence of John Hammond, Francis Hamond, Nicholas Barnsley, William Waters, his mark. Robert Harrette.
