Commentary
Mary’s parentage:
Mary was married in 1701 in Enville, Staffordshire. The Enville parish register records the baptism in 1674 of “Mary the daughter of George Waitis”. In his 1701 will, George Watis of Enfield names “my Daughter Mary Darby”. A note appended to the will states that “I John Darby of the parish of Kingswinford & County of Stafford Yeoman have received of my Father George Watis my wives portion”.
In the baptism record of Mary’s brother George, his mother is recorded as Anne. Mary’s eldest sibling was born 23 January 1658/9 and baptized in Claverley. In Bobbington, 3 miles from Claverley, George Wattis and Anne Wilcox were married 29 April 1658.
