George’s will:
In the name of God Amen I George Watis of the parish of Enfield & County of Stafford Yeoman being in Sound & disposing memory praised be God for the same do make this my last will & Testament In manner and form following. That is to say first and principally I resigne my Soul into the mercifull hands of Almighty God my Creator, assuredly hoping through the merits of my blessed Savior to obtain Remission of all my Sins, & my body I committ to the Earth whence it was taken to be decently buried according to the discretion of my Wife & my Son George as Executors herein after named, And as for the worldly goods and estate the Lord hath lent me I dispose thereof as follows
Imprimis I give and bequeath to my Son John Watis five shillings having paid him his portion in full already
Item I give and bequeath to my Son Edward Watis the just Sum of five pounds and to his daughter Margarett the just Sum of five pounds and to his daughter Anne the just Sum of five pounds, and to his Daughter Mary the just Sum of five pounds, to be paid them by my Executors within twelve months after my decease, with this provision and if in case that either of the three [interlined: or which of the] daughters Margarett Mary or Anne should die before marriage that her or their portion should be disposed equally to them or her that survives.
Item I give & bequeath to my Daughter Anne Grove five shillings having paid her, her portion in full already.
Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Mary Darby five shillings super and above her portion being fifty pounds which I order and appoint to be paid her within three months after the date hereof and acquittance to be had for the same to free my said Executor & then no demand for the residue to be made for the same.
Item I give and bequeath to my Grandchild Anne Grove the Chest in the parlour Chamber and her Grandmothers bed & Bolster with a Red Ring within 2 months after the decease of her Grandmother
Item I give and bequeath to my Sister Mary Watis the just sum of Twenty Shillings
Item All the rest and residue of my Estate goods Chattels & Cattels whatsoever of any kind whatsoever, or whereseover, or howsoever they have become unto me, my debts and funerall expences being discharged I give and bequeath to my Wife & my Son George whom I do make Sole Executors of this my last will & testament, revoking all other wills by me heretofore made and after the decease of my Wife I order appoint & leave to my Son George Watis & to his heires Executors Administrators whoever was, is, or shall be in the right of my wife by reason of Copartnership in being Executors to be his forever But if at any time she is minded to live with any other Child of hers so as to leave the said George Watis her Son, then I order, appoint And leave the said George Watis my Son & Executor to give & pay her the just sum of Thirty pounds at such time or times of her departure from him In Witnesse whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seale this Twentieth day of June In the Thirteenth Year of the Reigne of our Sovereigne Lord William the third King over England etc Annoque Dom’i 1701
