Carr (2017, p. 87) describes Tudur as the "real founder of the estate," who "had been rewarded for his services by the grant of the bond townships of Penrhwnllys and Twrgarw in the commote of Dindaethwy on very generous terms."

Stephenson (p. 113) notes that Tudur "is last seen in 1258", but it may be that he was out of favour with Llywelyn ap Gruffudd.
