Commentary
Helen’s parentage
The entry for Helen’s 4 August 1831 burial in the Dundee register records her age as 55. This implies a birth date between 4 August 1775 and 4 August 1776. There is only one candidate baptism, in Clackmannan on 21 August 1775. The place fits, since Clackmannan was recorded as Helen’s residence in the register entry for her marriage. It is also where Helen’s first child was baptized, and it was common in the period for a woman to give birth to her first child in her parents’ home.
The parents recorded in the baptism entry were John Yule and Helen Henderson.
