1417 is given by French (p. 59). The VCH of Surrey (Volume 4, sub Crowhurst) gives the date as 1418. The Bannerman edition of the Visitations of Surrey (p. 91) has “Sr John Gaynsford of Crowhurst in com. Surrey Knt. temp. H.5.”.
