Writ 18 October 12 Edw. I.

Sussex.

Extent, Wednesday before St. Edmund the archbishop, 12 Edw. I.

Midhurst. The manor (full extent given), including 36s. 8d. rent of assize of the burgesses of Midhurst called 'potteresgavel,' held, with Forde and Rustyntone, of the lords of the castle of Arundell by service of 3 knights' fees.

He died on the eve of St. Michael, 12 Edw. I. John his son, aged 9 at Whitsunday in that year, is his next heir.

Sussex.

Extent. Thursday the day of St. Clement, 13 Edw. I.

Forde. The manor (full extent given), including 30a. meadow at Prestebrok, held of the lords of the castle of Arundell, together with the manor of Midhurst of which it is member, and Rustynton, by service of 3 knights' fees.

Date of death, and heir, as above.

Sussex.

Extent. Friday the morrow of St. Clement, 13 Edw. I.

Shottesden. 20s. rent, which Savericus de Boun and Isabel his wife hold of the gift of John de Boun, held of the king in chief, service unknown.

Rustingthon. The manor, a member of Midhurst manor (full extent given), including 73s. 10d. rent for the meadows of Prestebrok and for the north brook (pro broka borial'), and 13a. land called Geresheker, held with Forde and Midhurst, as abovesaid.

Nytimbre. The manor, held of Sir William le Say, by service of ½ knight's fee; but the said John was not seised thereof in his demesne as of fee on the day he died, for he and Joan his wife, of whose inheritance the manor was, enfeoffed John de Bockynge and Alice his wife thereof for their lives by fine made in the king's court, and they had ingress on Wednesday before the Invention of the Holy Cross, 10 Edw. I.

Fordes. The manor, held with Midhurst and Rustynton manors (as abovesaid); but the said John was not seised thereof in his demesne as of fee on the day he died, for he enfeoffed the bishop of Durham thereof long before his death, viz.—on Tuesday after SS. Peter and Paul, 12 Edw. I.

Writ of certiorari concerning the manner of the feoffment which the said John made to Gregory de Rokesle of the manor of Rustenton, 22 Oct. 12 Edw. I.

Rustyntone. The manor was delivered by the said John to Gregory de Rokesle to farm at Whitsunday, 11 Edw. I. for twelve years from the feast of St. Michael following, excepting the lands &c. which he held of Savericus de Boun for life, and afterwards at the feast of St. Peter ad Vincula following he made his charter to the said Gregory of the said manor for life after the said twelve years for 100l. yearly, saving the lands held of the said Savericus. And afterwards the said John made to the bishop of Durham his charter of the said manor to him and his heirs and assigns in fee, doing the accustomed services to the lords of the fee, and of the abovesaid 100l. yearly ; and afterwards the said Gregory resigned to the said bishop his charter of feoffment on Tuesday after SS. Peter and Paul, 12 Edw. I., saving to himself his said term of twelve years.

He died on the eve of St. Michael at the end of 12 Edw. I.
