Cynan ap Maredudd ab Owain

Also known as Cynan of Caron. Cynan was a leader in West Wales of the Welsh rising of 1294.

The date is given by Pryce (p. 214). Bridgeman (pp. 220-1) gives 14 September 1295, stating that Cynan was hanged in Hereford after first being drawn to the place of execution at the tails of horses.

This relationship is shown by Bartrum (Rhys ap Tewdwr 6) and given by Bridgeman (p. 220). It is recorded in Brut y Tywysogion s.a.1274.

Mother: uncertain.

Bartrum (Rhys ap Tewdwr 6) doesn’t specify which of Maredudd’s wives was the mother of Cynan.

Gwenllian is said to have married Sir Gruffudd Llwyd.


Jonet is said to have married Geoffrey Clement.
