Commentary
Samuel’s parentage:
Samuel’s January 1813 burial record gives an age at death of 72. The record of his 1782 marriage in Burythorpe gives his abode as Kirby Grindalythe. These two pieces of information agree exactly with the baptism in March 1740 of a Samuel Adamson in Kirby Grindalythe. The baptism entry records that Samuel’s father was also named Samuel.
The Samuel Adamson who was baptized in 1740 in Kirby Grindalythe had a sister Catherine baptized there in 1746. This Catherine was marrried in Burythorpe, as was the Samuel of this page. A Samuel Adamson was a witness to Catherine’s marriage.
A Samuel Adamson was married in Kirby Grindalythe in 1779, but the register entry records the abode of that Samuel Adamson as Birdsall.
Taken together, the evidence is good enough that the 1740 baptism in Kirby Grindalythe was that of the Samuel Adamson of this page.
The name of the elder Samuel’s wife is known from her burial record.
