Relationships

Father: Henry Neale.

Mother: Elizabeth.

Anne was living in Birdingbury at the time of her marriage and this couple seems to have been the only Neale family living near Birdingbury at that time that was having children when Anne would have been born, and they had a daughter Anne. There was a burial of a John Neale, bachelor, in Birdingbury in 1729, which was followed by the burial of his mother Goody Neale a few months later. This may be evidence of another family, but probably John was Anne's brother and Goody Neale her mother. ("Goody" was sometimes used as a form of address, somewhat less prestigious than "Mrs" would have been at the time.) Neither Henry's wife nor his son John are mentioned in Henry's will. Anne was not mentioned either in Henry's will, but this is not unusual. The age given for Anne on the marriage bond gives a year of birth about three years off the baptism date of Anne the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (31 instead of the expected 28), but the age for her husband George Cooke on the same bond is even more inaccurate (35 instead of 45). Henry Neale, a son of Henry and Elizabeth, was married in Coventry St Michael's, which is where Anne Neale married George Cooke.

Spouse: George Cooke (1684 - 1755). Married 1 December 1729 in Coventry, Warwickshire (St Michael’s).

Although married in Coventry, the residence of both is given as “Burdenbury”.

Kinsman: William Jefcut.

William Jefcut in his 1756 will left two pounds sixpence to his "kinsman" Henry Neale of Birdingbury. Henry was Anne's brother. William was baptized in Birdingbury in 1676 and buried there in 1756.

Kinswoman: Mary Oughton.

Mary, the widow of the William Jefcut above, also mentioned her "kinsman" Henry Neale of Birdingbury in her 1771 will. Mary had married William Awood after the death of her first husband.

Children:

(Complete source citations for facts about the children on this page are currently outside of the scope of this project.)

Emery Cooke (baptized 1 June 1731 in Birdingbury - buried 20 June 1731 Birdingbury). She was presumably named after her father’s sister, Emmeria.

George Cooke (baptized 21 August 1733 in Birdingbury - died 10 April 1819) married (1) Jane Clement 14 October 1753 in Ashow, Warwickshire; married (2) Mary, widow of [...] Cooke, 8 December 1800 in Warwick, St Mary’s.
