Commentary
Margaret’s parentage:
Margaret was married twice at Uttoxeter and had children baptized and buried there, starting in 1634.
The Uttoxeter register records the baptism of a Margaret Gamble in 1609, which is the only baptism of a Margaret Gamble I can find in indexes for the relevant period. The baptism entry records Margaret’s parents as John and Ellyn his wife.
The 1668 will of Richard Gamble of Little Loxley, yeoman, names his sister Margaret Ward, her eldest son William Wilson, her son Anthony Ward and her daughter Margaret Ward. These names indicate that Richard Gamble must have been Margaret’s brother. The Uttoxeter parish register records the baptism in 1599 of Richard son of John Gamble and Ellyn his wife.
A 1608 deed of exchange shows that John Gamble was involved in property transactions in Little Loxley, which matches Richard Gamble’s abode in his will and Margaret’s abode in her will.
The eldest child of John and Ellyn Gamble was baptized in Uttoxeter in 1598. In 1597, John Gamble married Heleyne Cowpe in Rocester, Staffordshire, which is less than 5 miles from Uttoxeter.
