Date of Death: in 1095/6 or soon afterwards.

The date is given by the Complete Peerage (5:154). William was charged with treason at the Council of Salisbury in January 1095/6. He was defeated by his accuser in single combat, and thereafter condemned to be blinded and emasculated. He is assumed to have died shortly afterwards.


Place of Burial: in the free chapel within the castle of Hastings.
