Father: Byzantine emperor Isaac II Angelos.

This relationship is given by Hucker, by Weller (p. 157), and by Schreiner.

Mother: uncertain (Her name is recorded as "Herina").

Irene Tornikaina is given by Cawley, who states, citing an article by Don Stone and Charles Owens, that the most likely parents for Irene were Demetrios Tornikes and a daughter of Euthymios Malakes. Georgios Palaiologos Komnenodoukas is suggested as Irene (the elder's) father by Hiestand.


Spouse: Roger III, king of Sicily. Married July or August 1192 in Brindisi.

Spouse: Philip of Swabia, king of the Germans. Married 25 May 1197.
