Commentary
Jane’s parentage:
The burial entry in the Lower Mitton register gives Jane’s age at death as 65, but her death certificate gives 58. Jane’s husband was baptized in 1778, and the younger age fits a 1779 baptism in the Ribbesford parish register. There are no plausible baptisms around 1772, which would fit the older age.
The Ribbesford baptism gives Jane’s parents as Allen and Ann Hammonds.
The Birmingham St Philip’s register records the marriage of Allen Hammonds and Ann Baynton 1 February 1762. There is good evidence that this is the correct marriage. Allen and Ann’s eldest child was baptized 5 December 1762 in Astley. The timing works, and Astley is where Ann seems to have been baptized and where her father was buried in 1764.
