Adam immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1831. In the 1851 census, he is a labourer, living with his brother James, who is a farmer. In 1861 and 1871, he is a farm labourer living in North Dumfries, Waterloo County. In the 1870s he moved with his family to Muskoka where he became a farmer.
