Commentary
Elizabeth’s parentage
Elizabeth was married in Goxhill in 1722. It is reasonable to identify her with the Elizabeth Cowlam baptized in Goxhill in 1701. The parents are identified as Francis and Ellen Cow[l]am. In 1700 in Goxhill, Francis Cowlam married “Elen Taler”.
In his 1702 will, Franses Coullam of Goxhill named his wife “elliene Coulliam” and his daughter “elisabeth”.
Mistaken parentage
Most online trees give Elizabeth a different parentage. This is clearly due to the fact that the 1701 baptism has been omitted from indexes. However, it appears in digital images of the original register. Also, of course, most researchers couldn’t be bothered to check wills, but that goes without saying. More than 90% of the time that I see the will of someone in my family actually given in an online tree, it is simply a cut and paste of one of my transcriptions, including on WeRelate where it is generally with my permission.
