Commentary
In the indexes I have checked, no baptisms of Jennet Johnsons appear at the right time in the area (of course, taking account of spelling variations). The 1728 will of William Johnson of Birkdale names his daughter Jennet. Although I have not found a baptism for her, or for her sister Margaret and brother John, her other brothers were baptized between 1708 and 1719. William’s will implies that Jennet was 21 or close to 21 years old in 1728, making her the right age to be the Jennet of this page.
There are three marriages of a Janet Johnson in the area in the relevant time period:
James Jackson of North Meols married Jennet Johnson of North Meols in 1736 in Ormskirk.
Jennet Johnson of Ormskirk married Richard Waddington of Ormskirk in 1740 in Ormskirk.
Jennet Johnson of “this parish” married Nicholas Boond of “this parish” in 1748 in Churchtown.
The Jennet who married in 1748 was presumably too old to be the daughter named in William’s will. The daughter of William is more likely to be the Jennet married in 1736 than in 1740, since the 1736 marriage gives Jennet’s residence as North Meols, which is to be expected for the daughter named in William’s 1728 will.
Of course, it is difficult to know how complete this evidence is, but as it is, it supports William Johnson and Ann Rymer as Jennet’s parents.
