William’s will:
In the Name of God Amen the Twenty theird Day of January in the Year of our Lord God one Thousand Seven Hundred & Twenty Eight according to the computation of the Church of England, I William Johnson of Birkdall Within the parish of North Meols within the County of Lanc. Husbandman being very weake of Bodey much out of order do ordaine and make this my Last will and testament but first & most principally I Recomend my Soule into the hands of Allmighty God my maker hopeing through the meritts death & passion of Jesus Christ my Saviour and Redeem’r to Receive free pardon & forgiveness of all my Sins, & my body I Committ to the Earth whereof it was made to be decently Buried at the discration of my Executors here in after named, and as Touching such portion of worldly Goods & Estate as it hath pleased God to Lend me in this Life, I Give & dispose of the same as followeth but first I will that all my due debts & funerall Expences of the Charges of the Probate of this my will, be first paid and Deducted out of my sd Goods or Estate; & then I do Give demise Grant & bequeath of all the Remaining part of my sd Goods & Estate in this following manner & form
Imprimis first I do Give Grant and bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife Ann five pounds a yeare for and Dureing her naturell Life, or the one halfe of my messuage & tenemt Clear & my sd wife to have it in her Choyce whether she will make Chayse of, at her plesure, but in Case that my sd wife do Choos to the one halfe of my sd messuag & tenemt. that then it is my will & mind my sd wife have the one halfe of my Edifises and Buildings and it is my will & mind that my Executors put Som of my Younger Sons to Som handie Craft Traids as they shall thinke most fitt & Convenient and what money they Give in hand, or in any term of any of their apprentishipp to be accounted in part of there portions, and I do Give Grant & bequeath unto foure of my Youngest Sons Tenn pounds apeece to be paid to them severly as they Com to the full age of Twenty one years & Robert my Son to have all my goods [interlined] Item I do Give and bequeath unto my Two daughters Tenn pounds apeece Jenet my daughter & Margret my sd Daughters Item I do Give Grant & bequeath unto Robert my Son and heire my other halfe of my Estate Equally with my wife his mother. he my said Son Rob.t yeilding and paying unto my foure other Younger sons Tenn pounds apeece according as the paymts become due as aforesd is menconed to my sd sons namly Nicholas William Ricd & John, and he the sd Rob.t my Son Yeilding & paying unto Jenet my daughter Tenn pounds in the space of four years and yeilding & paying unto Margret my sd daughter Tenn pounds when she come & attaine to the age of Twenty one years, or at her marriag and Lastly I do nominat and apoynt Ann my said Wife & Robert my son my Sole Executors of this my Last will & testamt, hopeing they will see all things truely performed as my trust in them is makeing void all other former wills & testamts by me heretofore made In Wittness where of I the sd Wm Johnson Hath hereunto Sett & put my hand & Seal the day & year first above writtne
