Commentary
Alice’s parentage
In the 1735 marriage bond for Alice’s marriage, her residence is given as Prescot. Alice had seventeen children baptized in Prescot between 1735/6 and 1762. This information suggests that Alice was born between about 1712 and 1720, probably in or near Prescot. I have located only one plausible baptism, in 1717 in Prescot (father Edward Hugrave of Eccleston).
The 1725 will of Edward Hulgreave of Eccleston mentions Alice and her siblings Joseph, Mary, and Elizabeth. Baptism records show that Joseph, Mary, and Elizabeth were baptized in Childwall. Edward appears to have moved to Prescot in about 1714.
Edward’s eldest child was baptized in Childwall in 1703/4. In 1703 in Childwall, Edward Hulgreave married Mary Hinton. Edward names his wife Mary in his will.
