Commentary

Mary is said by Jones (page 195) to have been “of Cefncaled, Kerry.” In the baptism record above, Mary’s father is said to have been of Dolvor, which is in Kerry, but in a different township. However, there seems to be no other possible Kerry baptism, and, moreover, a witness at the marriage of Mary’s daughter Elizabeth Powell was Ambrose Thomas, who was the son of Matthew Thomas, a son of David Thomas and brother of the Mary Thomas baptized in 1726.
