Richard Naylor

Richard Naylor was elected Master of the Merchant Taylors’ Guild in 1475. He was also an alderman of the city of London (Clode p. 338).

Richard made a bequest in his will for a priest to sing for his soul and the souls of his father and mother in the church of St James, Wigan.

Richard made his will 18 July 1483 and it was proved 22 August 1483.


Place of Burial: London, England (St Martin’s Outwich).

The place is given by the Complete Peerage (1:31).

1475: Richard was elected Master of the Tailors and Linen-armourers' guild for one year.

1482: Richard served as Alderman.

In the Name of God Amen I Richard Naylor Alderman Citizen and taillor of London hoole of mynde and in my goode memorye beynge thanked be god make and ordeyne this my present testament and last will the xviii day of the month of Juyll The yere of our lord god mc ccc lxxxiij and the first yer of the Reigne of King Richard the iij d in manner and fourme that foloweth that is to say First I biqueth and recommende my soule to all myghty god my maker and savior & to our blyssed lady saint Mary the virgyn his blissed moder and to all the hooly company of heven and my body tobe buried in our lady Chauncel in the parish church of Saint Martyn Otteswiche of London on the south side of the quere of the same church Itm I biqueth to the high Awter of the same church for offerings forgoten or negligently witholden in the discharge of my soule vi s viij d Itm I biquethe to the werks of the same church xl s. The Residue of all and singuler my goodes I well(?) detts and catell wheresoever they be after my detts be paied my buryng madde and this my present testament fulfilled I biqueth hooly to Elizabeth my Wife for to dispose for my soule and the soules aforsaid in Werks and dedes of Charite as she shall seme moost best to please god and to the helthe of my soule and of this my present testament and last will I maake and ordeyne the said Elizabeth my wife and John my son myn executors And overseer of the same I make and ordeyne Hugh Pemberton Citezen and taillor of London and I biqueth to the same Hugh for his labour and to be ayding helpyng and comiellyng(?) to my saide Wife v li.
