Thomas Draper (died 1493)
Events
Date of Birth: unknown.
Place of Birth: unknown.
Date of Death: 1 June 1493.
The date comes from Thomas’s inquisition post mortem.
Relationships
Father: Thomas Draper.
The 1568 Visitation of London (Howard, p. 4) gives Thomas’s father as Thomas Draper of Flintham
Mother: unknown Auger.
The 1568 Visitation of London (Howard, p. 4) gives her surname as “Anger”; the 1619 Visitation of Leicestershire (p. 52) calls her the daughter of John Agar. Nichols (2:263) calls her dau. and heir to Ager Lutle. There are various other versions of her surname found in contemporary sources. The coat of arms of Robert Draper's descendant Sir Edmund Bowyer suggests that the name may have been "Aucher".
Spouse: Alice Kettleby.
Spouse: Joan.
Robert Draper names his mothers Alice and Joan in his will. The 1619 Visitation of Leicestershire (p. 52) and the 1614 Visitation of Nottinghamshire (p. 136) give Robert’s mother’s surname as Kettleby. The most likely interpretation of Robert’s will would seem to be that the first mother named, Alice, was his birth mother, and the second mother named, Joan, was his stepmother. (His wife’s mother was named Mary.) The Visitation of Leicester describes the Kettleby arms as “B. x ragule betweene 4 (martlets) Ar.”

Commentary
The Howard version of the 1568 Visitation of London makes this Thomas the brother, rather than the father, of Robert Draper, but this seems to be an error, which is corrected in the 1963 edition.
