Commentary
Thomas’s parentage:
In his will, made 4 December 1671, the Thomas Ball of this page is recorded as being of “newe Roe” in North Meols. The will also mentions his wife and unnamed children. The St Cuthbert’s parish register records the burial of “Thomas baule de row” on 10 December 1671.
In his will, made 2 December 1671, Thomas Ball of “New Row” in North Meols named his grandchild Thomas Ball, whom he made an executor. The St Cuthbert’s parish register records the burial 28 December 1671 of “Thomas baule de row the elder”.
The two wills were both proved 3 January 1671/2.
The 1664 hearth tax returns record at “Rowe” one Thomas Ball and two John Balls.
The baptism of the Thomas Ball of this page does not appear in the register, but there is this entry in 1624: “Ball fil Thomas was baptized Novbr the 7”.
The 1635 will of James Balshaw names “Thomas Bale” and his daughter “Jenet balle”, and Jenet’s burial record names her husband Thomas.
All this is not enough to demonstrate Thomas’s parentage. I think it likely that Thomas was the son of Thomas senior, but this is unproven.
