Obituary for Mrs. John Crozier:
Once again the grim reaper has visited our village, and removed one from our midst who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. For to know Mrs. Crozier was to love her, and the news of her death in Bracebridge on Friday night, following an operation in the morning, spread sorrow through the whole village and surrounding District.
Mrs. Crozier, (formerly Agnes Brewster), was born in our township in 1868, but on the occasion of her marriage, moved to her new home in Purbrook; later she, with her husband and family of six children, moved to our village, where she resided up till the time of her death. Mrs. Crozier was an earnest worker in the Methodist Church, and was a friend to every one. Kind, sympathetic and hospitable, she made a host of friends who will all feel her loss very keenly.
The remains were interred in the Methodist cemetery, service being conducted by Rev. Bainborough, assisted by Rev. Warring. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Allan McCracken, Thomas Kirkpatrick, Henry Patterson, Wm. Watson, W.T. Kirkpatrick and Jno. Peterkin.
Mrs. Crozier leaves to mourn the loss of a loving mother, five children, Mrs. Wm. Tinkiss, of Bracebridge; Pte. Will, in England; and Mrs. Ed. Kirkpatrick, George and Frank at home. There are also two sisters, Mrs. Will Crozier of Dorset, and Mrs. Will Gavin of Ziska, and a brother, George, in Ziska. To all of these we extend our sincerest sympathy.
The many beautiful floral tributes bore their silent testimony to the esteem in which the deceased was held. Among others were a wreath from the family, a large spray from the Methodist Ladies’ Aid, and sprays, wreaths or crosses from the following: Mrs. Foster, Mrs. and Miss Tinkiss, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Kirkpatrick, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Crozier, Mr. and Mrs. Ranson, Mrs. Jack Kirkpatrick, Mrs. Will Watson, Jack and Ivy Patterson, Mrs. and Miss M. Adamson, Mrs. Byham, Mrs. Wm. Crozier, Mrs. Wm. Gavin and Mrs. F. Kirkpatrick.
The funeral was largely attended, many being present from Dorset, Ziska and Bracebridge and other outlying points.

Commentary
Agnes’s parentage
On Agnes Elizabeth’s death certificate, her father is given as “George Brewster”.The informant on the certificate was her son George Crozier.. In the 1871 and 1881 censuses, George is the head of the household including Agnes Elizabeth. (1871: “Bluster George”; 1881: “Bruster George”.) Relationships are not explicitly stated in these censuses.
On Agnes Elizabeth's death certificate, her mother is given as “Janet Greave”. In the 1871 and 1881 censuses, Jeannetta appears as married to George, the head of the household including Agnes Elizabeth. Her name is given as “Jane” in both censuses. The name “Jeannetta” comes from her gravestone.
Agnes’s date and place of birth
Agnes’s date of birth is given as “July 3, 1868” by the 1901 census and as “July, 1868” by the 1911 census. Her age at death is given as “50 yrs. 3 mnts 15 dys” on her death registration (date of death 19 October 1918) which calculates to July 4 (or possibly 3) 1868. The informant for her death registration was her son, George Crozier. Agnes’s gravestone gives her date of birth as “July 3 1870”. The weight of the evidence supports a date of 3 July, 1868, especially since Agnes herself was likely present when the census information was taken.
Agnes’s place of birth is given as “Draper” on her death certificate. Her granddaughter (a daughter of George Adam Crozier) related to me that Agnes was said to have been born at “Rocky Narrows”, where her father had property.
Agnes’s date and place of death
Agnes’s death registration gives the date of death as “Oct. 19th 1918” and the place of death as “Bracebridge”. The informants were [her son] George Crozier and the physician P B M Gibbon. The return was made on the day of her death. The cause of her death was cardiac failure, brought on by intestinal obstruction (duration 3 days).
