Thomas Cooke

Thomas Cooke was born in Harbury, and living with his parents in Napton in the 1841 census. He is probably the Thomas Cooke who was a servant with a wine dealer in Leamington Priors in the 1851 census. He later lived in Stockton, Warwickshire, and then Napton on the Hill, Warwickshire, described variously as a farmer, grazier, and cattle dealer. Some records relating to his son, Thomas Arthur, refer to him as a grocer or butcher. In his son William Henry’s marriage record, T.C. is given the middle name “William”. A family tradition that he was a Church of England clergyman who had attended Oxford is not supported by the evidence.
