In the Stamford Mercury (1, 8, and 15 July 1791, on page 4), in an advertisement for the sale of the manor of Goxhill, “Lot 3” at Goxhill is described thus:


All those Four several Closes of Meadow and Pasture Land (lying together) called East Marsh and Groves, in the Tenures of Francis Faulding, William Palmer, Stephen England, and Robert Cliff, containing, by Estimation, 97 [acres] 2 [rods] 10 [perches]


Land tax redemption, 1798:

"Mr England" owns a piece of land in Middle Rasen (occupier F. Walsham), assessed at 3 shillings. He occupies another piece of land assessed at 4 shillings, 9 and a half pence, owned by the Reverend Mr. Wilson.

Stephen’s will:

This is the last Will and Testament of Me Stephen England of Middle Rasen in the County of Lincoln Farmer which I make in Manner following, that is to say, I give and devise all and every my Messuages Cottages Closes Lands Tenements Hereditaments and real Estate whatsoever situate lying and being at Goxhill East Halton Thornton Curtis and Middle Rasen in the said County of Lincoln with their and every of their Appurtenances unto my dear Wife Mary England and her Assigns for and during the Term of her natural Life without Impeachment of or for any Manner of Waste And from and after the Decease of my said Wife I give and devise my said Messuages, Cottages, Closes, Lands Tenements Hereditaments and real Estate at Goxhill East Halton and Thornton Curtis aforessaid and every part thereof respectively unto my Sons William England and Francis England their Heirs and Assigns forever Upon Trust nevertheless that they the said William England and Francis England or the Survivor of them his Heirs and Assigns do and shall sell and dispose of the said last mentioned Estates and every part thereof either by public Auction or private Contract as they shall think proper and convey the same on Payment of the Purchase Money or Monies for which the same shall be sold to the Purchaser or Purchasers thereof his her or their Heirs and Assigns or to whom he she or they shall appoint and after paying and discharging thereout all Expences attending such Sale or Sales Upon further Trust that they my said Trustees or Trustee for the Time being do and shall by and out of the Monies arising from such Sale or Sales pay unto my Daughter Elizabeth Sleight the sum of Two hundred pounds and the like Sum of Two hundred pounds to my Daughter Sarah Lowther and after such payments pay and apply one Moiety or half part of the Residue of the Monies to be produced from such Sale or Sales and also until such Sale or Sales one Moiety or half part of the rents and Profits of the Premises to be so sold as aforesaid unto my Son Robert England his Executors or Administrators and the other Moiety or half part of the said Monies Rents and Profits unto my Daughter Mary Broughton her Executors or Administrators And I do hereby give and bequeath the said two Sums of Two hundred Pounds each and the said several Moieties or half parts aforesaid unto the said Elizabeth Sleight Sarah Lowther Robert England and Mary Broughton their Executors and Administrators respectively And from and after the Decease of my said Wife I give and devise my said Estate at Middle Rasen to my said Son William England To hold to him his Heirs and Assigns forever Also I give and devise All and every my Messuages Cottages Closes Lands Tenements Hereditaments and real Estate whatsoever situate lying and being at Fultow in the said County of Lincoln unto my said Sons William England and Francis England To hold to them their Heirs and Assigns forever And I direct them to convey the same Estate and every part thereof with the Appurtenances in Case I shall not have done it in my Life Time unto John Tomlinson of Ucleby near Barton in the said County of Lincoln Farmer (with whom I have contracted for the Sale thereof at or for the Price or Sum of Nine hundred and forty Pounds on receiving Payment of and Security for such Purchase Money according to the Agreement signed by him and me respecting the same) or to whom he the said John Tomlinson his Heirs or Assigns shall direct or appoint And until the said John Tomlinson his Heirs or Assigns shall complete his said Contract and in Case he shall not fulfil the same the said William England and Francis England their Heirs and Assigns shall hold and enjoy the said last mentioned Estate to whom in that Case I give and devise the same accordingly To hold to them the said William England and Francis England their Heirs and Assigns for ever as Tenants in Common and not as joint Tenants And I do hereby charge and make chargeable the said Messuages Cottages Closes Lands Tenements Hereditaments and real Estate in Fulstow (or the Purchase Money thereof, in Case the same shall be paid and secured as aforesaid) with the Payment by my said last named Sons of the Sum of Two hundred Pounds to my said Daughter Sarah Lowther and the Sum of One hundred Pounds to my Daughter Frances Keyworth Wife of William Keyworth which said several Sums I hereby give and bequeath to my last named Children and do direct the same to be paid to them respectively within twelve Calendar Months next after my Decease And I hereby also charge and make chargeable the said Messuages Cottages Closes Lands Tenements Hereditaments and real Estate in Fulstow or the Purchase Money thereof in Case the same shall be paid and secured as aforesaid with the Payment of the Sum of Three hundred Pounds which I hereby give and bequeath unto my said Sons William England and Francis England Upon Trust nevertheless that they or the Survivor of them his Executors or Administrators do and shall put and place the said last mentioned Sum out at Interest either on Government or real Securities and pay the Dividends or Interest thereof as and when the same shall become due and be paid unto my son John England for and during the Term of his natural Life And after the Decease of my said last named Son Upon Trust to call in divide and pay the said Sum of Three hundred Pounds and all the Dividends and Interest thereof which may then be in the Hands of the said Trustee or Trustees unto and amongst all the Children of my said Son John England equally share and share alike Provided always and I do hereby declare it to be my mind and will that it shall be lawful for and I do hereby authorize and empower my said Trustees or Trustee for the Time being (if they shall think it proper so to do) to pay and apply in the Life Time of my said Son John England the said Sum of Three Hundred Pounds or any part thereof and also the Dividends and Interest of the same unto and for the Benefit of him my said Son John England and his Family at such Times in such Manner and Proportions as they the said Trustees or Trustee shall in their Discretion think proper and I do hereby declare that the Receipts alone of my said Son John England shall be a sufficient Discharge for the Money to be paid to him I hereby give and bequeath unto my said Son Francis England the Sum of One hundred and Fifty Pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain And I give and bequeath all my Household Goods Furniture Beds Bedding Plate Linnen China Earthen Ware Wearing Apparel and all other my Goods Chattels and Effects (except Money and Securities for Money) which shall be in and about my Dwelling house at Middle Rasen aforesaid at the Time of my Death unto my said Wife her Executors Administrators and Assigns absolutely for ever I also give and bequeath unto my said Wife during her Life the Interest of the Sum of Two hundred and Twenty Pounds, the like Sum being now out at Interest, and subject to the Payment of such Interest and also to the Payment of my just Debts Funeral and Testamentary Expences and the said Legacy of one hundred and Fifty Pounds to my said Son Francis England I give and bequeath the said Sum of Two hundred and Twenty Pounds and all my ready Money and Securities for Money and all other my personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of what Nature or kind soever not hereinbefore disposed of to my said Wife unto my said two Sons William England and Francis England their Executors Administrators and Assigns to be had received and enjoyed by them equally share and share alike to and for their own Use and Benefit for ever Whereas John Sleight the Husband of my Daughter Elizabeth Sleight stands indebted to me in the Sum of one hundred Pounds and some Interest for the same now I do hereby give and forgive unto the said John Sleight the said Sum of One hundred Pounds and the Security for the same or so much thereof and all Interest for the same as shall be due and owing to me at the Time of my Decease And Whereas the above named William Keyworth the Husband of my Daughter Frances Keyworth stands also indebted to me in the Sum of Three Hundred Pounds and some Interest for the same Now I do hereby give and forgive unto the said William Keyworth the said Sum of Three Hundred Pounds and the Security for the same or so much thereof and all Interest for the same as shall be due and owing to me at the Time of my Decease Provided also and I do hereby declare that the Receipts of my said Trustees or Trustee for the Time being shall be sufficient Discharges to any Purchaser or Purchasers, Tenants, Occupiers and other of my said Estates who shall under and by Virtue of this my Will pay and Sum or Sums of Money for so much Money as in such Receipts shall be [...] and acknowledged to be received and that such Purchaser or Purchasers, Tenants Occupiers and others shall not be bound to see to the Application or be liable for the Misapplication thereof or any part thereof And I also declare that it shall be lawful for my said Trustees or Trustee to reimburse themselves and himself out of the said Trust Monies all such Costs Charges and Expences therefor [...] of them shall or may expend or be put unto in the Execution of the aforesaid Trusts or any of them and that they or either of them shall not be answerable or accountable for any more Money than shall actually come to their or either of their Hands nor for any Loss Misfortune or Damage which shall or may happen to the said Trust Monies Stocks Funds or Securities which shall or may come to their or either or their Hands or be vested in them in pursuance of the Trusts hereby in them reposed so as such Loss Misfortune or Damage be not occasioned by their or either of their wilful Neglects or Defaults respectively and also that they my said Trustees shall not be answerable or accountable the one of them for the other of them but each of them for his own Heirs Executors and Administrators Acts Neglects and Defaults respectively And I hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said Sons Francis England and William England joint Executors of this my Will And I hereby declare that what I have by this my Will given to or provided for my said Wife shall be accepted and taken by her in Lieu Bar and Satisfaction of and for all Dower or Thirds whatsoever on my several Estates hereinbefore mentioned or any other of my real Estates of which I have heretofore been and am now or may die seized or possessed And I do hereby revoke all former and other Wills by me at any Time heretofore made and do declare this alone to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Stephen England have to this my Last Will and Testament contained on four sheets of paper set my Hand and Seal, that is to say, my Hand at the Bottom of the three first and preceding Sheets and my Hand and Seal to this fourth and last Sheet this twentieth Day of
