In the name of god Amen the 15.th day of Auguste in the yeare of our lord god one thousand six hundred eightie and nine I John Bates of Standish in the Countie of gloucester husbandman being weake in body but of parfecte memory praised be god for it doe make and ordaine this my last will and testamente in manner and forme folling firste I bequeath my sowle into the hands of the Almightie god hopeing in and through the death and passion of Jesus Christe to receive free pardon of all my sinns and my body to the earth from whence it was first framed and as for my worldly goods which the lord hath in his mercie lente me j give and bequeath them as followeth..

Item I give and bequeath unto my two sonns John Bates and Samuell Bates All my Arable Land lying in Lingfield and Clarding and Stonyfield duering the tearme of the estate alredy granted from sir Ralph Dutton and nowe of righte bellonging to me


Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth one table bord and one dish of pewter


Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Jane one dish of pewter and one brass candelstick


Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary one bedd and bedsteed which is in the Roome ouer head and one dish of pewter
