Commentary
William’s parentage
A 1519 grant shows that James Estone possessed the tenement “Potmans” in Catisfield.
In his 1554 will, James left his land to his son John A Neston. He also mentioned his son William A Neston, among other children.
In 1555, John died, and his brother William was granted administration. Also in 1555, John’s widow Margery quitclaimed to William lands which were her husband John A Neston’s in Catsfield, Nienfield, and Warbleton.
A 1592 conveyance shows that William had possessed, among other land, land called “Potmans”, which passed to his daughter Dorothy.
I think this chain of possession of “Potman’s” shows that William was the son of James A Neston mentioned in James’s 1554 will. In this will, James also mentioned his wife Alice and his “brother” William Watts.
